When is the best time to go on holidays to Mauritius?

This is such a common question and I must admit, I always find it hard to give an exact answer as going on holidays at any time of the year would ensure you having the best times of your life!

I would still recommend the months of November / December. Apart from the perfect weather conditions, there is ample sunshine for a great tanning! Mind the sunburns though! Lots of outdoor activities you can do during this time; cultural festivals such as Divali, Eid, Christmas to experience and what better than having New Year Eve’s at the beach with some chilled champagne!

Should you not like very hot temperatures, then I would suggest March, April and October. You need to remember that in Mauritius, there are only summer and winter; and the summer season runs from October till March while winter season is between April and September.

Being a tropical country, whatever the season though, you should keep in mind that you could wake up a morning and it could be raining!

Tipping

There is no set code for tipping when you go out dining. It is of course well appreciated by the waiting staff when they are tipped. You can tip a waiting staff the amount you want to, as there is no set standard.

Restaurants do not add service charges to the bill as a general rule and waiters either share all the tips at the end of their shift / day or at times the waiter serving you will keep the tips he made for his shift. It really depends on the restaurant policy.

If you have established a good relationship with the waiting staff attending to your table, and you feel like tipping him for his efforts but are not sure, you may ask him / her to ensure that the tips go to the right person!

Little advice: avoid leaving the tips on the table and walking away! Either give in personally to the waiter or give it with the bill.
