Discover the Mauritian Gold at L’Aventure du Sucre Jun 19

A former sugar estate transformed into a museum will tell you all about the Mauritian Sugar industry which was once the gold of the island and helped the country churn some profits for its get to its present economic position. Along, you will be able to know about the Mauritian culture, the rich history of the island and its people, how Mauritius summarizes a perfect harmonisation of cultures brought from different continents.

The sugar museum takes you four centuries back when Mauritius grew sugar cane on large scale, produced one of the best sugars, with the colour of gold. Along this journey of discovery, you get the chance meet the Mauritian ancestors, their different cultures, traditions and values and see how they all contributed in making Mauritius as it is now.

Pack it! May 17

Ok, so you finally decided! You booked the tickets and the hotel. Now its time to start packing for these great holidays in Mauritius!

First of all, try to travel as light as you can! So when you are piling up all that you want to take with you, try not to pack your whole house! The reason for this is because Mauritius is also a shopping paradise! You will find so many things to buy, from clothes to souvenirs, from Asia to Africa, for yourselves or for your friends and families!

Now, even though it is highly advisable to reduce to a minimum your luggage, there are important things you should try bring!

√ Long sleeved tops and tshirts - it is quite a common belief that when it is hot, one should wear sleeveless tops and tshirts! Unless you have lived in sunny and hot countries all your life (even then it is not a good practice), bring tops and tshirts with long sleeves! Covering your arms will not only avoid sunburns, but they help in balancing your body temperature to bear the heat and sun!

√ Suncream - needless to say, suncream is essential to protect yourself! Make sure you take plenty of them and if possible try to buy one that comes in a small bottle that you can carry around easily in your bag!

√ Hats - Wearing a hat will be very handy when you are going for long walks where you are going to be exposed to sunshine for a long time! Else you may end up with terrible headaches in the evening!

√ Anti mosquito bites - in cream or spray or lotion, in whichever form you want! But make sure you have them on you! You need to remember that you are going to a tropical country!!

√ Any tablets to treat diarrhea - If you have a sensitive digestive system and are not used to changing eating habits, then you can either stick to steak and chips at the hotel restaurant or you can still enjoy the Mauritian cuisines, and be reassured that if you do upset your digestive system, it will not ruin the whole vacations!

√ Crocs shoes - Feedback from this tip given to a friend: ” the best thing I brought with me was a pair of crocs shoes, without them I would have been able to do it” (referring to her walking to a tiny island, ile sanchos, south of Mauritius) - A pair of crocs will definitely be very handy to enjoy some of these unforgetable experiences you can have in Mauritius for example walking to the reefs when it is low tides or walking (and swimming) to an islet!

√ Camera - last but not least, make sure you take your camera, extra memory cards or films, because you will be taking loads of pictures and many of them would be quality pics that you can use as wallpapers!!

Happy packing!

Few facts to know about Mauritius Apr 24
When you are planning a vacation, having all of the important facts in hand well in advance will help to ensure that your trip will be as pleasant and problem-free as possible.

For American travellers who plan to vacation on Mauritius, one important factor that will be handy to know about in advance is that the metric system is used for weights and measurements on the island. As this is something which many Americans are not overly familiar with, it would be a good idea to either brush up on skills or carry a metric converter, such as a small booklet which contains this information. It may seem like a very minor issue, but when you are on your trip you will see how frequently it will come in handy for everything from asking the distance in directions to purchasing food items while shopping.

If you are wondering if there may be a language barrier, it is not likely that you will have a problem with this. Although most of the residents of Mauritius speak the dialect known as Creole, and basic French is also often used, the official language of the island is English, and many people are fluent in English regardless of which language they prefer to use in their everyday lives.

As a first-time traveller to Mauritius, it will also be necessary for you to know that the island’s monetary unit is the Mauritian Rupee. One dollar is equivalent to about thirty rupees. If you wish to have the assistance of a currency converter, they are readily available and will be quite convenient for you. Credit cards are acceptable; and ATM machines are also available in many locations for your convenience.

In order to be welcomed to Mauritius, you will need a valid passport, proof of funds necessary for your stay, adequate traveller’s insurance, and your travel ticket stating that you have your return destination. You will not be required to have extra immunizations in order to visit Mauritius.

While driving on the island is done on the left-hand side of the road, you will be allowed to drive if you possess a valid driver’s license and abide by the island’s driving laws. Renting a car will not be difficult at all if you have your personal documentation.

As long as you take proper common-sense precautions, such as not carrying large amounts of cash and not walking alone at night, you will not have much to worry about in terms of your basic safety.

Even though the island of Mauritius may be radically different from the lifestyle of your home location, all it really takes is exercising an average degree of sensiblity in order to have a good, safe vacation. After you have the basic important information that you will need for your trip so that communication, entrance requirements, and other issues are well prepared for, all that will be left for you to do is plan the nicest trip that you have ever taken, and then have a great time!

No need to be wild on your budget to have great holidays in Mauritius! Apr 02

You may believe that taking a holiday in a faraway place such as Mauritius must cost a small fortune; or, at the very least, that anything affordable would not be up to very good standards. If you have put off planning a trip because of these beliefs, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that not only can a Mauritius vacation fit into your budget, but also that everything you need in order to make your visit the most perfect vacation you have ever had can be the very best without being accompanied by an extreme cost.

For example, depending on your personal needs for accomodations, there are a number of hotels which will provide beautiful suites and all of the amenities that you would expect to only find in a high-priced hotel. Being lower in cost does not mean that they offer anything less than the finest services. You can find hotels which offer such features as a fitness room, sauna, tennis, lovely restaurants with specialty meals, and many other features that you would love to have but may have been afraid that you could not afford.

You can lower the overall cost of your Mauritius vacation considerably if you select a travel package which includes both your flight and your hotel accomodations. When you have taken this first step, you will be pleasantly surprised at exactly how affordable the vacation of your dreams can really be!

When you check into these packages, you will also find that such important “extras” as car rental and numerous activities can all be nicely achieved within your budget. Instead of spending a small fortune on your hotel accomodations and other such necessities, you can have them at a much more reasonable price, which will leave you and your family with more spending money for your entertainment and souvenir-shopping.

There are virtually no negative concerns– unless you count having too many wonderful things to do and exciting things to experience than will fit into your time schedule! The costs, and the standards of the accomodations, however, are very reasonable.

There is a Mauritius vacation travel package available to fit nearly every budget. If you already know all of the experiences and adventures that are waiting for you on the island, you do not need to simply dream about all of the good times you could have on your vacation, you can easily find vacation packages that are much lower than you may have thought, without having to sacrifice the great service and fine quality that you and your family deserve. You can save money and have a wonderful vacation on Mauritius at the same time.
