Ok, so you finally decided! You booked the tickets and the hotel. Now its time to start packing for these great holidays in Mauritius!
First of all, try to travel as light as you can! So when you are piling up all that you want to take with you, try not to pack your whole house! The reason for this is because Mauritius is also a shopping paradise! You will find so many things to buy, from clothes to souvenirs, from Asia to Africa, for yourselves or for your friends and families!
Now, even though it is highly advisable to reduce to a minimum your luggage, there are important things you should try bring!
√ Long sleeved tops and tshirts - it is quite a common belief that when it is hot, one should wear sleeveless tops and tshirts! Unless you have lived in sunny and hot countries all your life (even then it is not a good practice), bring tops and tshirts with long sleeves! Covering your arms will not only avoid sunburns, but they help in balancing your body temperature to bear the heat and sun!
√ Suncream - needless to say, suncream is essential to protect yourself! Make sure you take plenty of them and if possible try to buy one that comes in a small bottle that you can carry around easily in your bag!
√ Hats - Wearing a hat will be very handy when you are going for long walks where you are going to be exposed to sunshine for a long time! Else you may end up with terrible headaches in the evening!
√ Anti mosquito bites - in cream or spray or lotion, in whichever form you want! But make sure you have them on you! You need to remember that you are going to a tropical country!!
√ Any tablets to treat diarrhea - If you have a sensitive digestive system and are not used to changing eating habits, then you can either stick to steak and chips at the hotel restaurant or you can still enjoy the Mauritian cuisines, and be reassured that if you do upset your digestive system, it will not ruin the whole vacations!
√ Crocs shoes - Feedback from this tip given to a friend: ” the best thing I brought with me was a pair of crocs shoes, without them I would have been able to do it” (referring to her walking to a tiny island, ile sanchos, south of Mauritius) - A pair of crocs will definitely be very handy to enjoy some of these unforgetable experiences you can have in Mauritius for example walking to the reefs when it is low tides or walking (and swimming) to an islet!
√ Camera - last but not least, make sure you take your camera, extra memory cards or films, because you will be taking loads of pictures and many of them would be quality pics that you can use as wallpapers!!
Happy packing!
